Dangerous

We should believe maybe that Israel won the short war already against Hamas, with nearly 10‘000 victims in the Gaza strip. Imagine you live there and you built your house in the last months or years and it became destroyed by israeli bombs. Any insurance to rebuild it, hoping that the next attacks will leave your place out? From this perspective you might never be able to accept illegal israeli construction and non official and tolerated attacks from israeli settlers against bedouine villages. It is no question that Hamas attacks on israeli settlers are not comparable with this situation. 

How is it possible that palestinians until today do not live in a situation under protection of the law? Well, we all do know that the situation is incredibly complicated. One of the main problems might be that extremists on both sides are in functions of responsibility, especially in Israel, with the minister of finance, Bezalel Smotrich, and Itamar Ben-Gvir, minister for national security (Le Monde diplomatique, swiss edition, «Kriegspremier Netanjahu, Israels neue Notstandsregierung », November 2023). These men might not be looking for a compromise, but hide their intentions behind official rhetoric.

Surprinsingly new is the diplomatic attitude of Mohamed bin Salman, prince of Saudia Arabia, who demanded an immediate stop of the both-sides-escalation. Saudi Arabia had begun talks with Israel in a larger context of political objectives (Le Monde diplomatique, swiss edition, «Saudi Arabien spielt auf Zeit», November 2023).
