Slaving away

18 Février 2024 , Rédigé par Madeleine Staeheli Toualbia Publié dans #clip hébdomaire

Politics are a complex thing and contexts normally are not easy to understand. But what we have to learn about the israeli war in the Gaza strip is on first sight simple and obvious. The USA are unusually cautious in making their diplomatic point in this war, and on the other hand they are for the first time - according to the newspaper "Le Monde diplomatique" ("Die USA als Kriegspartei", February 2024, swiss edition) - supporting actively Israel with weapons in a war on palestinian territory. In the same time many jewish US citizens take their distance being against. But we have to look at mass graves in the Gaza strip, at destroyed livelyhood, still taking the palestinian Hamas for an equal enemy. Discussions arise where to bring the surviving population and which question could arise next? Who will build the Gaza strip for Israel? And further on? Will they bring back the survivors, themselves or the next generation, but not for their donkey charts but for a life in a modern new world with important access to the sea and many other opportunities, no 2 state solution, but economic relations to the wealthy saudi arabians? Even in Israel centrists and left wing voters do not agree with the right wing president Benjamin Netanyahu who is responsible for the destructions, and if the government might change in a near future it will be too late and the successor will have to rebuild, if he agreed with the war or not. But many who are critisizing the israelian decisions, who are not in line with the president, do have to accept that they might be anti-Semitic. Well, obviously, Hamas might consist, at least partly, of hardliners, too, but it is dangerous to change public opinion saying that this group who is a political one is a terrorist organization to be legitimated to destroy it, wiping it out as a such from history. Who will speak for the Palestinians afterwards, Mahmoud Abbas again, a moderate politician, very cautious and diplomatic and not accepted by Hamas leaders? This people will not forget its tombs as no people does and hardliner's decisions in Israel do assist extremist positions on the other side, Hamas might not be destroyed, therefore. No colonial victory of Israel - or, on the contrary, a "Big Israel" with an attitude of some of the rich to send money to unpriviledged or attacked palestinians who are looking for a future for their children and accept to be integrated in the offered development? It might be much more complicated and we should try to find out what these simple and obvious messages are covering: What is the Middle East becoming?
