It was no surprise for Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi that the military took power, according to information from Associated Press. Signs and movements had been known for months after the November vote the military leaders did not agree with. The question arises why Aung San Suu Kyi did not or was not able to hinder the coup. Military leaders are saying that they are acting in accordance with the constitution allowing the power to be handed to the commander-in-chief in cases of national emergency. There is surely a difference for Aung San Suu Kyi between her former role in the opposition and her current role as a state counsellor.
