Face masks and handkerchiefs

Many of the face masks people wear to protect themselves from the Corona virus infection and to help others not to get infected do not close well. But they are sold and sold out. It is surely better than nothing. People could hold their handkerchiefs in front of their mouth and nose, this might be a protection and elegant at once, with the same effect. But it would mean a pestilence and it remains unclear, therefore, why it is more acceptable to wear face masks when countries are closing schools and enterprises send their employees home. It is a pestilence, but it remains commercial.
